Back to my heroines of contemporary dance – this time we’re not talking meak flower on the wall of dance history, but tackling the uber influential Martha Graham – we are talking THE mother of modern dance. She believed in the deep meaning of movement and broke from the constraints of ballet to literally invent a new palette of movement, all this happening from the late 1920s onwards, she is often referred to as the Picasso of dance.

One of her trademarks are these long flowing costumes which would amplify her moves and adding to their apparent freedom.

This is based on possibly the most iconic picture of her.

Karuski is the nom de pencil for me, Katherine Mengardon - I am a fan of all things 1960s, CAKES, obscure indie pop bands, children illustrations, bad puns and cats. Any spare time goes towards baking mad cakes, drawing families and catified musicians.
