Michael Stipe

Bands

A really serendipitous kinda day today as, after many years thinking these were lost, I’ve unearthed a number of drawings when I was in my late teens. These were the last drawings I did before stopping for 20 years.
They are pretty much of my heroes at the time – and there was no one bigger in my world than REM, with a huge not just orange crush on Michael Stipe.
I didn’t get to see them live until 1995, and part of me will always regret only jumping on the band wagon in the 1990s when they went mainstream – but I just adore the back catalogue.
So for starters, here’s my version of Michael from the Succumbs video (not sure it ever made it to DVD!).

Karuski is the nom de pencil for me, Katherine Mengardon - I am a fan of all things 1960s, CAKES, obscure indie pop bands, children illustrations, bad puns and cats. Any spare time goes towards baking mad cakes, drawing families and catified musicians.
